The research and innovation in Dr. Qu’s group are well balanced with the scientific significance and potential practical application. Dr. Qu is particularly specializing at not only the fundamental academic research but also bridging it to the development and the production of new products by organizing technology transfer from the lab to the production in the following areas:

  • Primary alkaline MnO2/Zn battery development, improvement and production.
  • Development of high performance air-cathode for Zn-air cells and alkaline fuel cells including selection of carbon material, loading non-noble catalysts and optimizing PTFE bonded gas diffusion electrode.
  • Development of optimization for supercapacitor materials and devices.
  • Process Control of mass production
  • Development of MnO2 for particular applications e.g. cathode material, catalyst and oxidant.
  • Development and selection of graphite material for particular applications e.g. enhance conductivity, minimizing tool wear etc.
  • Development and optimization of porous electrodes.
  • Failure analysis for energy storage systems.
  • Electrochemical micro-sensors.
  • Water treatment using activated carbon and in-situ generation of oxidant.
