Announcements

These web pages contain lots of information about the organic chemistry sequence at UMass Boston, much of it in the form of downloadable PDF files. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to use this material; if you don't already have it, it's a free download.

Important! As of Fall 2008, the organic chemistry courses at UMass Boston have been split into separate lecture and laboratory courses. The lecture courses are CH 251 and 252 (Organic Chemistry Lecture I and II); the laboratory courses are CH 255 and 256 (Organic Chemistry Laboratory I and II). The lecture and laboratory courses MUST be taken simultaneously.

Are you planning on taking Organic I this coming fall? (Fall 2008) If you are, take a look at the OWL Organic Prep Course at UMass Boston. It's a free, no-credit, online refresher on general chemistry concepts. Try it out before classes begin in September!

Hot!Another relatively new resource: Reaction Rolodex for the equivalent of CH 253, and Reaction Rolodex II for the equivalent of CH 254. Sites posted courtest of Professor Eric Mahan at the University of Hartford. Thanks!

Fun Links!

What's That Stuff? - interesting information on everyday items such as lightsticks, baseballs, self-tanners, inks, etc...
It's Elemental - The Periodic Table - this is an interactive periodic table that has an article about every single element. Really very interesting!
The Elements, a Song by Tom Lehrer - complete with Flash animation. Fun!
Better Flavors Through Organic Chemistry! Read on and learn more about the application of your organic chemistry coursework to modern flavor chemistry.

The Chemistry Haiku Project - read them and take them to heart!

Possible Sources of Chemistry Templates
First up is the Rapidesign Chemical Ring Template (R-83):
Drafting Supplies Online Catalog - charges $14.50 with a $20 minimum order.
Artstuff.net - charges $14.30. (Site looks just like the previous one!)
MisterArt.com - charges $11.44
